Castelvecchio Pascoli is famous for the celebrated poet Giovanni Pascoli (1855-1912) and the main road running through the town is named after him. He lived his later years in the town and his house has now been turned into a museum where many of the original manuscripts can be found amongst other memorabilia - please refer to area description for further information on Giovanni Pascoli.

With approximately 500 inhabitants in the town there can be found a bank, post office, small supermarket, cafes, hairdresser, etc. and a good primary school close by.  The train station at the bottom of the hill gives good connections to Lucca, Pisa and Aulla.

The ski resort of Abetone is about 50 km away however the smaller ski resort of Formica and Via Nova with restaurants, three ski lifts and artificial snow making facilities are around 20 km away driving on the picturesque road through Castelnuovo, Filicaia, Poggio and Careggine.
