Lombardy is located to the North of Italy and even though it has the most provinces with 12 it is not the largest region with an area of 23,844 kmē, the largest region is the Island of Sicily with an aera of 25,711 kmē however it is the most populated region with a little over 10,000,000 people, (Sicily has a litlle over 5,000,000 people). The provinces are: Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Lecco, Lodi, Mantova, Milan, Monza, Pavia, Sondrio and Varese of which Milan is the regions Capital.

It is host to some of the largest lakes in Italy, Maggiore and Como being the 2nd and 3rd largest whilst it shares part ownership of the largest lake in Italy being Lake Garda. Whilst Lombardy is to the west of Garda, the region of Veneto is to the east and Trentino Alto Adige is to the north.

Lombardy with its lakes is possibly the most popular tourist destination in Italy and is the richest region as a fifth of its GDP, (growth domestic product), is produced in Lombardy.
