Basilicata

Basilicata is not really known as a tourist destination and is not one that someone really stumbles across, it is a region that someone chooses and is possibly regarded as one of the poorest regions of Italy but don't be misguided as it is truly rich in authenticity and preserved traditions.

It is located at the south of Italy between the toe and heel, it has an area of a little under 10,000 km² with a population of just under 600,000 people.

The region consists of 2 provinces: Matera and Potenza of which Potenza is the regions Capital.

The variable climate is influenced by three coastlines, (Adriatic to the east, Ionian to the south and Tyrrhenian to the west), and the complexity of the region's physical features. The climate is continental in the mountains and Mediterranean along the coasts.
